B is for Blue Zero

At Urquhart Opticians, we believe that there is a product to help everyone...

One of the challenges that our Opticians are often asked about is the increasing amounts of Blue Light that people are exposed to in their everyday life. Therefore, we have introduced Shamir Blue Zero lenses...

You may be familiar with blue coatings which block some of the blue light from screens and car headlights. However, Shamir Blue Zero, is not a lens coating but the Blue Zero technology is actually built into the lens. It is a specialised lens material and is offered by very few other Opticians.

So what does Blue Zero do?

Blue Zero lenses cut down the amount of blue light taken in by your eyes. Shamir developed a unique polymer (a collection of different molecules) so your Blue Zero lenses absorb a percentage of blue light, while maintaining visual clarity. Blue light is known to cause eye strain, disrupt your sleep pattern and in some cases, dry eye (Our Opticians can help with this too!).

Why use Blue Zero lenses?

Screens are increasing more and more, and are a part of everyday life – phones, ipads, laptops, etc; so Blue Zero is recommended by all of our Opticians.

Blue Zero would be beneficial if you work in an office, at a computer or in a lab for example. Our Lab Manager in Kilmarnock wears Blue Zero as he is working in very bright, artificial light everyday and it give him better visual comfort.

We’ve all been in the situation when driving where oncoming headlights feel blinding. Car headlights are becoming brighter and brighter, so Blue Zero lenses would make driving at night a bit easier.

These are just a few examples, but we would recommend Blue Zero lenses to everyone.
