Sound Idea: New Partnership Launched Between Ayrshire and Dumfries Services

Urquhart Opticians is teaming up with fellow independents Castle Hearing to offer the Dumfries-based audiologists’ private services to the thousands of patients served by Urquhart’s Kilmarnock, Troon, Prestwick and Glasgow practices. From October, private hearing tests, hearing aids and microsuction wax removal will be available from all four practices, along with Castle Hearing’s aftercare service.

The partnership is the latest expansion by Urquhart Opticians and reflects a growing demand for innovative, bespoke hearing care; technological advances and the increasing number of people affected by hearing loss. Across the UK, around 10 million people have experienced hearing loss. In Scotland, an estimated 945,000 – or around one in six of the population - are deaf or have hearing loss. These figures are expected to rise with the ageing population, and with hearing loss potentially undetectable for up to ten years, it is recommended that everyone over 40 has their hearing checked.

Peter Telfer, Partner at Urquhart Opticians, commented: “For some time now, Urquhart Opticians has been keen to offer our patients a hearing care service which complements our own eyecare services and we’ve been looking for the right partner to deliver this. In Castle Hearing, I have absolutely no doubt that we have found just that. Like Urquhart Opticians, Castle Hearing are independent, driven by service and value for the patient, and they use the latest in technology. Our aim is to be experts in eyecare and by partnering with Castle Hearing, we are proud to now have experts in hearing care joining us in our four practices.”

Castle Hearing has over 50 years dispensing experience and owner Steven Robb added: “Like Urquhart Opticians, Castle Hearing is genuinely independent. We work with six different suppliers, and this breadth means we can offer truly impartial advice, helping each individual patient to choose the best hearing solution for their particular needs. We also greatly appreciate the importance of a personal service, with our hearing tests taking up to an hour and a half, with unlimited aftercare following any purchase. Castle Hearing are therefore very excited to be bringing these services to Ayrshire through our partnership with Urquhart Opticians, and look forward to joining the teams in Kilmarnock, Troon and Prestwick, as well as their practice in Glasgow.”

Private hearing tests and consultations will be available at Urquhart Opticians practices from October. There is no charge for a private hearing test and to book or find out more go to www.urquhart-opticians.co.uk. Award-winning Urquhart Opticians was established in 1916 and has practices in Troon, Prestwick, Glasgow and at their headquarters in Kilmarnock.
