Why did you get in to Optics?
I had been working in a picture gallery, where we had prints by Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet etc, when I saw an advert in a local optician looking for an Optical Advisor. I applied and I was lucky to be offered the job. When I started it was only on a part-time basis but within a couple of years I was promoted to branch manager and I stayed in this role for for just over 19 years.
Where did you study?
I'm from Kilmarnock and I attended Kilmarnock Academy. All of my Optics knowledge has been built up over my many years in the industry.
How long have you been with Urquhart Opticians and what do you enjoy most about your job?
I started working at Urquhart Opticians in June 2017. I love interacting with all our clients helping them to choose their new spectacles
What is your favourite brand of eyewear and why?
We have a new eyewear collection called Face a Face. We are one of the few partners to stock this exclusive collection in Scotland. They are well known for being rich in colour and unique shapes and sizes.
What is your most memorable patient experience?
I value every one of my clients and I've been fortunate enough to meet many wonderful people over the years and have built up many long standing relationships with many of them.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love walking, even if it's raining I will be outside. I also love to spend time with my family
Where is your favourite holiday destination?
It has to be Australia. I was there a few years ago visiting Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. I'd love to go back!
What is your favourite movie?
Every Christmas we watch The Family Man with Nicolas Cage.
What is your favourite book?
I love to read supernatural books and anything with vampires.
One interesting fact about yourself?
I walked the West Highland Way in 5 days!
