Name – Joan Reid
Why did you get in to Optics?
I previously worked in the cosmetic industry – both are about people looking and feeling good about their appearance.
Where did you study? / What qualifications do you have?
I completed High School in Cheshire many years ago but I can remember that I achieved 7 G.C.S.E’s and have attended numerous training courses in Optical Care.
How long have you been with Urquhart Opticians and what do you enjoy most about your job?
I joined Urquhart Opticians in January 2016, but this is my nineteenth year in Optics.
What is your favourite brand of eyewear and why?
I love all of our designer glasses but my favourite is probably Michael Kors as I have both optical and sunglasses in this brand. I feel there is a good variation in price and style, making it very popular.
What is your most memorable patient experience?
I have so many and they include Children and Adults. I love to hear the kids funny little stories and I often meet our patients on holiday, most recently in Lanzarote and previously in Tenerife and Arran. If you see me, say hi!
Outside of Work
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of work I love spending time with friends and family. I enjoy walking my little cocker spaniel Flo and I have a campervan that I have used to tour round the whole of Scotland.
Where is your favourite holiday destination?
I have many favourite places but the one I love the most is Italy!
What is your favourite movie?
It has to be the Hangover and what makes it so special is that I watched it on the flight to Las Vegas.
What is your favourite book?
I don’t have a favourite author but I enjoy a good Autobiography.
It might not be so interesting to others but I have been to well over 20 Bruce Springsteen Concerts. At one point I attended a concert in Manchester, travelled over night to catch a ferry to Belfast and drove to Dublin to see him the following two nights!
