Why did you get in to Optics?
It was by chance really. I lived in England for 12 years and worked for a large Insurance Company within a customer service role. I made the decision to move back to my hometown and wanted a new challenge in my career and Optics is certainly that!
Where did you study? / What qualifications do you have?
I studied at Irvine Royal Academy and after my exams I left school and got my first job. I completed a SVQ Level 2 in Administration and went on to complete NVQ's level 2 and 3 in Customer Service. I am currently studying for my Level 5 in Optical Care.
How long have you been with Urquhart Opticians and what do you enjoy most about your job?
I have worked here for nearly 2 years and it has been a quick 2 years! Our patients are what makes my job enjoyable; I love helping them choose new frames and seeing the outcome when they come to collect their new glasses.
What is your favourite brand of eyewear and why?
It's a hard one as we have so many fashionable frames and I'm fortunate not to need glasses. I am currently building up my collection of sunglasses though and my favourite at the minute is my Michael Kors pair however I do have my eye on a nice pair of Tom Fords!
What is your most memorable patient experience?
I am based in our Kilmarnock practice however from time to time I work in the other branches and I had a Kilmarnock patient come all the way to Troon just to see me so I could do the collection of their glasses... and they even brought me some sweets!
Outside of Work
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I have a 9 year old daughter and a Springer Spaniel so we love the outdoors. If we're not out on long walks, we're on our bikes. I also like going out for meals with friends and the odd cocktail or two.
Where is your favourite holiday destination?
At the minute I would say Barcelona but I'm off on holiday next week somewhere new so I will let you know......
What is your favourite movie?
Taken
What is your favourite book?
I'm not a book fan but I do enjoy my daughter reading to me.
