Why did you get into Optics?

When I was younger I always knew I wanted to do something in Health Care and as a full time glasses wearer myself from the age of six, I knew how life changing having good eye care was. In school I was interested in Science, so when I had the opportunity to do work experience in an Opticians, I knew it was the career for me.

How long have you been with Urquhart Opticians and what do you enjoy most about your job?

I have been with Urquhart Opticians since October 2021 and have worked in Optics for 9 years. The best part of the job is meeting new people and finding out more about each individual so that we can find the best option to improve their vision.

What is your favourite brand of eyewear and why?

I LOVE the Etnia Barcelona range – the colours, the styles – it has something for everyone! It is such a versatile brand, whether you want to be bold and adventurous or more classic and subtle.

For sunglasses, I always stick with Rayban. Rayban provide a classic, timeless style that can be worn year on year.

What is your most memorable patient experience?

There has been so many! An experience that is always memorable is fitting a child with their first pair of glasses and knowing you have changed their whole visual experience!

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Outside of work you will usually find me with my walking boots on, running after my Scottish Terrier Dougal, or eating out in local restaurants.

Where is your favourite holiday destination?

Portugal has always been a family favourite, lots of good food and amazing sights to see.

What is your favourite movie or book?

My favourite book is Where the Crawdads Sing.
